Curriculum

The children in Reception develop their learning and skills through a variety of activities, based largely around planned and free play situations, as well as gaining an understanding of the world around them.

. The 7 areas of development are:

  • Communication and Language (Listening, Attention and Understanding, Speaking)
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Self-Regulation, Managing Self and Building Relationships)
  • Physical Development (Gross Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills)
  • Literacy (Comprehension, Word Reading and Writing)
  • Mathematics (Number, Numerical Patterns and Shape, Space and Measure)
  • Understanding the World (Past and Present, People, Culture and Communities and The Natural World)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (Creating with Materials, Being Imaginative and Expressive)

The indoor and outdoor provision is carefully planned using the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance. The stimulating learning environments encourage children to explore, investigate and learn through first hand experiences.
It is through play that children are able to explore and make sense of their world. We encourage all our pupils to become confident and independent learners, who ask lots of questions and learn how to find out the answers, whilst having a challenging, fun and enjoyable time.

We change our topics every half term to inspire, engage and excite our children, while giving them the opportunities they need to develop and learn.

Keep up-to-date with us by reading our weekly Home Learning letters!
