Year 5

Welcome to Year 5 with

Mr Marshall, Miss Welsh, Mrs Luxon and Mrs Lane.

School Closure Work

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

We expect each child to complete a Maths, Literacy, Guided Reading and Foundation activity each day.

We have separated the work into daily folders and then sub folders for each subject. Please only complete one days work at a time. There is also a Maths Challenge folder. This folder contains challenge questions you can complete through the week relating to your work.

It is also important to stay active at home, Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) is providing live exercises for children, at 9am every week day, on his YouTube channel.

Stay safe at home!

Many thanks,

The Year 5 Team

We also recommend that you use:

Homework Information for Parents

In year 5, the children will be given 6 pieces of homework each week. Spellings, mathletics, spag, homework book, bug club and reading record comments.

We also expect that your child reads for at least 15 minutes a day. A book will be set every week on Bug Club.

If you would like to carry out extra activities here are some options you may wish to choose:

- discussing key characters and settings

- making a list of unfamiliar words and their meanings

- discussing the book with your child and the events that occur

Spellings are given every Friday which must be learnt and practiced using sentences DAILY as we carry out a spelling on the following Thursday or Friday.

Mathletics homework Homework will be set on Mathletics every week and will be based on the topic we have been learning that week

SPAG  is set on and helps children to practise test style questions.

Homework book is linked to the units we are learning about in class and changes every week.

Please ensure that your child is completing homework and bringing it into school on the days it is due in. We appreciate all the hard work you do with your child at home.smiley

Supporting your child at home:

We have provided some ideas for how to work with your child at home to support the skills they need at school. We have included documents about supporting your child in reading, writing and with their speaking and listening skills. It is vital that home and school work together to help children reach their full potential. We hope that this will give you a few ideas about how this can be achieved. Please let us know if you have found this useful or have any further questions.

Your child now has access to 'Mathletics'. It is an exciting opportunity for your child to have a lot of fun whilst consolidating their maths skills. All pupils in KS2 at Chatsworth have access and teachers will be setting homework for them to complete online. Please do not worry if you do not have access to the internet, we will ensure that your child has an oppoprtunity to log on in school.

It is a completely safe and secure website with many thousands of schools around the world using it everyday. Since its launch, it has been proven to raise standards in mathematics across the globe.

We can't wait to hear what the children think and see how much more motivated they become! If you have any questions, please see your child's teacher.
